MTN Foundation

Our First project was the MTN UniversitiesConnect Project funded by the MTN Foundation Nigeria. The project is the first of its kind in Nigeria, and was designed to bridge the information gap with the use of ICT in Nigeria. The MTN NetLibrary project is an innovative project designed to provide asses to information in Nigeria through the provision of digital access and infrastructure to Nigeria’s institutions of tertiary education.

The pilot project at University of Lagos – Phase 1 (14th December 2005). To a large bulk of the student it’s a dream come true, gradually as the time honored role of libraries as repositories of the world’s knowledge began to manifest. The project has also been established in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria Phase 2 (21st May 2009), University of Nigeria, Nsukka Phase 3 (5th June 2009), and University of Benin Phase 4 (14th of March 2011).

The project scope:
•Created conducive study environment through space renovation, provision of adequate lighting, furniture, and alternative power generation (100KVA generator)
•NLN infrastructure, which includes 120 networked computers, servers, VSAT based internet connectivity in libraries
•Initial 2 year subscription to electronic resources (books journals, etc) through the NLN network with a clear exit sustainability strategy.
•Enhanced Library services through provision of access to WorldCat and access for InterLibrary Loan
Training for at least 12 members of existing library and technical staff  who would work with NetLibrary over 3 years in management and maintenance of the library to build capacity.
•Initiated a 5- year maintenance contract to ensure a more conducive environment is maintained with a clear sustainable strategy.

The management of the facility has been in accordance with set sustainability plans that were agreed upon amongst the Sponsors, Beneficiaries and the Implementing organization. NetLibrary has managed the facility successfully for the past five years.

Education Trust Fund (ETF)
Netlibrary Nigeria Limited partnered with ETF in the ETF/NetLibrary Project for one higher Institution in each of the 6 geopolitical zones of the Federation. We have been able to set up the physical infrastructure for e-library access for the following institutions:

•University of Ado-Ekiti,
•University of Abuja,
•Nuhu Bamaili Polytechnic Zaria,
•University of Technology Uyo,
•Federal College of Education Adamawa,
• Ebonyi State University.

Project Scope:

•Created conducive study environment through, provision of work tops, furniture, and alternative power supply (27KVA generator).
•Digital Library Infrastructure, which includes 60 networked computers, 2 servers, VSAT based internet connectivity in libraries.
•1 year subscription to electronic resources (books journals, etc) through the NLN network with a clear exit sustainability strategy.
•1 year inter-lending support services to facilitate interlibrary loan process between borrowing and lending institutions.
•1 year cataloguing Support to improve work flow in libraries.
•1 year technical Management support
•Training for at least 6 members of existing library staff and technical staff on the management of the library

The New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD)
Netlibrary was involved in the NEPAD/ETF Interactive Learning Network Project. Netlibrary provided qualitative tertiary digital content for the project.

•Provided 3 years unlimited nationwide access to databases;
•Developed  a portal for easy and seamless navigation of databases provided;
•Provision of archiving software with search facility for the databases;
•Training workshops on use of the programme in 12 demo sites;
•Developed materials for use in production of video support for the programme.

The objective of NetLibrary collaboration with Total is to promote access to information through ICT with the provision of electronic library at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port- Harcourt and University of Calabar.

•Provision of Library Management Software
•Subscription to World’s best Electronic Resources
•Provision of networking infrastructures
